These flip-flops have a secret

Reef flip-flops are a classic for a reason: They're well made, comfortable, and designed with a supportive, arch-friendly sole. This pair is no exception (and one of the many things we're eyeing from Nordstrom's sale — more on that below). They're as handsome as flip-flops come and are made with supple leather and super-grippy rubber.

But what makes them truly special? They have a built-in bottle opener embedded in the sole. Yup. They're a fantastic gift or a little treat for yourself, so you can be the MVP of the rest of this summer's parties and beach days.

Everything else we're eyeing from Nordstrom's sale

Our deals experts have been combing through Nordstrom's annual sale, and they've found plenty of markdowns on trendy products we've tested and loved — that don't see discounts often. Some standouts? A pair of cushy no-show socks, a blurring setting spray for sweaty summer days, and old-school loafers beloved by Jenna Lyons.

Your daily deal: The best retinol for beginners

A container of Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 retinol serum, in front of a sand-colored background.

Every tester who tried this retinol specifically praised how nicely it spreads into skin: Fresh out of the pump, it looks like lotion, but then it massages into a sheer, silky layer. Plus, it comes in a range of strengths, so you can slowly increase the concentration to match your skin's needs. Use promo codes WIRECUTTER and FREESHIP to get it for $49.

One last thing: Be fun at parties

Another piece of advice for your summer get-togethers: Bring the party. "I don't mean metaphorically with your sparkling personality — I mean it quite literally," writes head of newsletters Sofia Sokolove in a recent edition of our weekly newsletter, The Gift. "Bring a gift for the guests. Something procured for the sole purpose of being a little bit silly, of upping the fun."

A few ideas: a ridiculous pie face game that'll splat whipped cream on partygoers' faces, some glitzy temporary tattoos, and a portable karaoke machine.
